Nigeria is often referred to as the “Giant of Africa”, owing to its large population and economy. With approximately 175 million inhabitants, Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa and the seventh most populous country in the world. The African country has one of the largest populations of youth in the world.

As of 2015, Nigeria is the world’s 20th biggest economy, worth more than $500 billion and $1 trillion, in terms of nominal GDP and purchasing power parity respectively.

Nigeria is one of the largest countries in Africa, with a total geographical area of 923,768 sq Kms. It is considered to be an emerging market by the World Bank; it has been identified as a regional power on the African continent, a middle power in international affairs, and has also been identified as an emerging global power. The Nigerian poultry industry is estimated at 800 million USD and is comprised of approximately 145 million birds. The country presently produces above 550,000 mt of poultry meat per annum and 700,000 mt of eggs and largest producer of eggs in Africa and consumes 360,000 tonnes of beef a year. Nigeria has estimated 19.5 million cattle, 72.5 million goats, 41.3 million sheep, 7.1 million pigs and 28,000 camels, 145 million chickens, 11.6 million ducks, 1.2 million turkeys and 1 million donkeys.
