Nigeria is often referred to as the “Giant of Africa”, owing to its large population and economy. The Nigerian poultry industry is estimated at 800 million USD and is comprised of approximately 145 million birds. The country presently produces above 550,000 mt of poultry meat per annum and 700,000 mt of eggs and largest producer of eggs in Africa and consumes 360,000 tonnes of beef a year. Nigeria has estimated 19.5 million cattle, 72.5 million goats, 41.3 million sheep, 7.1 million pigs and 28,000 camels, 145 million chickens, 11.6 million ducks, 1.2 million turkeys and 1 million donkeys.
