Serbian poultry processor Superior Foods has inaugurated a new, state-of-the-art processing facility in Šid, northwestern Serbia, following an investment of €7 million (approximately $8 million). The project, officially announced by the Ministry of Agriculture of Serbia, represents a major step forward for the country’s poultry sector.

The investment was supported by Hodler Asset Management, a Hungarian investment fund that became the sole owner of Superior Foods in April 2024 after acquiring the remaining 32% of shares.

Doubling capacity and expanding employment

According to Serbia’s Minister of Agriculture, Dragan Glamocic, the new facility will double Superior Foods’ processing capacity to more than 14 million poultry units per year. The company currently employs around 260 workers, and staffing is expected to exceed 300 employees in the next development phase.

Superior Foods, founded in 2014, works in partnership with more than 50 farms across Serbia and neighbouring countries. The expanded capacity aims to strengthen both domestic supply and export potential for premium poultry products.

Building an integrated value chain

“Our goal is to create a strong value chain that will unite the cultivation, processing, and distribution of the highest quality products on the market,” said Miklos Kerezsi, Chairman of the Board of Hodler Asset Management, during the facility’s inauguration.

The new plant in Šid incorporates modern processing lines designed to meet EU food safety and quality standards, enhancing Serbia’s competitiveness in regional poultry markets.

Strong performance and future outlook

Superior Foods reported operating revenue of 6.4 billion dinars (€55 million) in 2024, compared to 6.3 billion dinars in the previous year. Although net profit declined to 133 million dinars from 308 million dinars year-on-year, the company remains among Serbia’s leading poultry processors by volume and turnover.

With the new investment, Superior Foods aims to consolidate its leadership in Serbia’s fast-growing poultry industry and strengthen its role as a regional supplier of high-quality chicken products.
