Axedum, a family-owned company founded in 1997, has become the first Moldovan producer authorized to export chicken meat to the European Union. This milestone reflects both the company’s long-term commitment to quality and the broader modernization of Moldova’s poultry sector.

What began as a small local business has evolved into a vertically integrated operation producing chicken meat, eggs, canned foods and ready-to-eat products. According to Executive Director Dumitrița Cojocaru, Axedum’s growth has always been guided by clear values: animal care, responsibility toward consumers, and a focus on fresh and safe products. “Quality starts at the bird-rearing stage,” she explains. The company follows strict welfare rules, and feed is carefully selected, free from harmful additives, antibiotics or growth hormones.

Each stage of production is closely monitored, from chick selection to packaging and delivery. Investments in digital tools and modern climate-control systems ensure precise environmental management and reduce the risk of human error. These upgrades have helped Axedum meet the demanding standards required for EU export authorization, granted in June 2024.

International expansion has been a strategic priority. With support from the Invest Moldova Agency, Axedum has taken part in export missions to Bucharest and Düsseldorf and exhibited at ANUGA 2025, one of the world’s leading food industry trade fairs. These initiatives have helped the company increase visibility, better understand market requirements and establish new commercial partnerships. Axedum now aims to strengthen its position in the EU while exploring opportunities in the Middle East and Central Asia.

In April 2025, the company became a beneficiary of a state aid program dedicated to strategic investments. The project, valued at 180 million MDL, includes a 50% contribution from the Moldovan government and supports further technological upgrades and expansion capacity. “When the state and the business community work together, results follow quickly and sustainably,” Cojocaru says.

Moldova’s agri-food sector remains a driving force of national exports, with strong potential for continued expansion. In the first half of 2025, the country exported nearly 11 million table eggs to the EU, building on its 2023 authorization to supply the European market. Axedum’s success highlights the potential of Moldovan producers to compete internationally through investment in technology, high standards and close collaboration with national institutions.
