Europe is facing continued circulation of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), with surveillance data confirming widespread activity across both wild and domestic bird populations.

According to the latest official figures from the European reference surveillance system, nearly 4,900 HPAI outbreaks have been recorded across Europe. The majority of detections concern wild birds, with more than 4,200 confirmed cases. In addition, over 700 outbreaks have been reported in poultry farms, captive bird collections, and backyard flocks.

The outbreaks involve a total of 33 European countries, indicating broad geographic distribution rather than isolated regional clusters. Both commercial and non-commercial holdings are included in the reported farm and captive bird cases.

The data reflect ongoing virus circulation in wildlife alongside repeated spillover into kept birds. Surveillance updates continue to track confirmed events by country, species category, and production type, providing a consolidated epidemiological picture for the European poultry sector.

Producers and industry operators are advised to follow official reporting channels and biosecurity guidance, as monitoring activity remains active and case numbers continue to evolve with new notifications.
