World Egg Day 2026 will be celebrated around the world on Friday 9 October. This will be its 30th anniversary and the theme ‘Protein that Powers and Protects’ emphasises how the high-quality protein found in eggs supports health and wellbeing at every stage of life.
“Since 1996, World Egg Day has been celebrated by people, organisations and communities across the globe. Although it has grown in size and reach each year, its mission remains the same – to celebrate the fantastic benefits of the humble but mighty egg,” says Julian Madeley, Director General of the World Egg Organisation (WEO).
He adds, “This year the focus is on the high-quality protein found in eggs and how they help to power the body and protect overall health. As a key contributor to physical and cognitive development, it is vital that high-quality protein is accessible to the entire global population. That is what makes eggs so special – they are a source of essential nutrients and one of the highest-quality proteins that can be produced and enjoyed all around the world!”
WEO are also delighted to introduce ‘Eggwin’ – the official mascot for World Egg Day 2026. He will help communicate the value of egg protein in a way that appeals to audiences of all ages.
World Egg Day takes place every year on the second Friday of October. Last year saw over 100 countries worldwide celebrate, with many in-person events including a record-breaking omelette, meal donations, and competitive egg-based cooking.
To support the egg industry with celebrating, WEO has created an interactive toolkit. This includes the theme and key messages, social media graphics, GIFs, a 30th anniversary video and inspiration from 2025’s activities.
