World Egg Day 2026 celebrates 30 years of egg nutrition

Today, 9 October, World Egg Day marks its 30th anniversary, celebrating the nutritional value of eggs and their important role in healthy, balanced diets worldwide.

Established in 1996 and celebrated annually on the second Friday of October, World Egg Day provides an opportunity to highlight the contribution of eggs to human nutrition and raise awareness of their benefits among consumers around the globe.

This year’s theme, “Protein that Powers and protects”, emphasises the role of eggs as a natural source of high-quality protein and essential nutrients, including choline, vitamin D, vitamin B12 and selenium. Containing all nine essential amino acids, eggs contribute to muscle growth and maintenance and provide valuable nutrients for people at different stages of life.

Beyond their nutritional benefits, eggs are appreciated worldwide for their versatility, accessibility and role in a wide variety of culinary traditions. They also represent an important component of global food systems, contributing to the availability of nutritious food for growing populations.

World Egg Day 2026 is an opportunity to recognise the value of eggs and the contribution of the global egg industry to food production and nutrition.
