The ICAR–AICRP on Poultry Breeding, under the Directorate of Research at Assam Veterinary and Fishery University (AVFU), has organised a poultry vaccination and awareness programme in Jagra Model Village, Nalbari district, to promote scientific poultry farming and disease prevention. According to the original report, the initiative trained around 250 poultry farmers and vaccinated nearly 5,000 birds against Ranikhet, also known as Newcastle disease.
The campaign was carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Veterinary Biologicals, the State Veterinary Dispensary at Jagra and the Anajori Development Society. Farmers also received free medicines, multivitamins, mineral mixtures and nutritional supplements as part of the programme, which aimed to reduce disease-related losses and improve poultry productivity in rural areas.
The awareness drive focused on practical vaccination techniques, recommended vaccination schedules and general poultry health management. Organisers said the event was designed not only to strengthen farm-level disease prevention, but also to support rural livelihoods through better flock health and improved production efficiency.
The Institute of Veterinary Biologicals, based in Guwahati, is the state facility responsible for producing several veterinary vaccines, including vaccines used in poultry against Ranikhet disease and fowl pox. The research framework behind the campaign is also linked to the AICRP on Poultry Breeding, a long-running ICAR-supported project active in Assam’s poultry sector.
